2016: a final farewell

In many ways 2016 was for the birds, but that was not always bad. During 2016 I discovered how rewarding (and how difficult) it is to photograph these fleeting creatures, leading to one of my favorite sunset images (above). It led to my favorite surf image as well…

And with a photograph that was awarded twice, selected for two shows, published by multiple media outlets, and became both a popular and personal favorite (below), I cannot complain too much about this year that was for the birds (although, let’s be honest, it also dropped a whole lot of bird poop).

Time to Fly

Time to Fly

In 2016 I lost a much loved cat but gained my new model-in-residence and best-dog-ever, Imi. I lost a couple of valued relationships, but met many interesting new people and have become close to a few. In 2016 the business side of my photography thrived under a new model (although it is now, sadly, threatened by the potential loss of the Affordable Healthcare Act… keep your fingers crossed and write your representatives!).  And, in 2016 I clicked the shutter button of both of my cameras approximately 28,000 times (about 540 times per week), kept about 9400 pics, and either delivered to clients or released to the general public nearly 2500 images in either print or digital media.

But now it is Time to Fly into 2017, welcome it’s  challenges and opportunities with full-spread wings, and be careful not to crash into any (seemingly) transparent doors and windows that obstruct our path.

Wishing you all a very happy, joyful and prosperous New Year… I hope I will be able to share and save a few moments with you.
